WESTOVER, MD – The Rutgers men’s golf team opened its 2005 spring season with a sixth-place finish at the Drew Upton Towson Golf Classic on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights carded a 616 (312-304) to finish sixth in the 19-school tournament, held at the 7,005-yard, par-72 Great Hope Golf Club.
Loyola College won the team championship with a 595 (296-299), while Loyola’s T.J. Shuart took home the individual title with an even-par 144 (71-73).
Junior Erick Morales (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) led the Scarlet Knights with a 151 (77-74) for the two-round event to tie for 13th. Senior Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ) was two strokes behind his teammate, carding a 153 (78-75) to tie for 26th overall. Junior Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ) tied for 49th with a 158 (78-80). Junior Mike Kosup (Flemington, NJ) and sophomore Seth Hirschhorn (Willingboro, NJ) each carded a 159 for the event to tie for 56th. Kosup finished with rounds of 84 and 75, while Hirschhorn fired a 79 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday.
The Scarlet Knights return to action next Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, at the Princeton Invitational in nearby Princeton, NJ.
