PISCATAWAY, NJ - Coming off its most successful fall in recent memory, the Rutgers men’s golf team has moved up to No. 1 in the latest Mid-Atlantic Region poll. The list ranks the top 50 Division I teams in the region and is also instrumental in deciding the NCAA Championship field as the top four in each region advance to the Regional Championships.
“It is great to be in this position and I know we are going to continue our play through the spring season and achieve our goal of making the NCAA Regionals in the spring,” said Rutgers head coach Maura Waters.
The Scarlet Knights will be making their first appearance in the NCAAs since the 1984 season.
Rutgers won four tournaments this past fall, taking home titles at the Rutgers, Elon, William & Mary and St. John’s Invitationals. The Scarlet Knights also won two individual titles this past fall. Senior Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ) won the tournament championship at the Rutgers Invitational, while junior Mike Kosup (Flemington, NJ) took home the individual title at the Elon Invitational. Both shot a six-under-par in his respective event.
The men will open their 2005 spring schedule on Saturday April 2, when they compete in the two-day Towson Invitational.
