ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Rutgers men's golf team opened the 2004 fall season with a fourth-place finish in the 20-team Navy Invitational on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights shot a 597 (300-297) to finish 13 strokes back of champion Towson at the 6,611-yard, par-71 United States Naval Academy Golf Course. Sean Seese of St. Joseph's took the individual title with an even-par 142 (72-70).
Seniors Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ) and Erick Morales (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) led the Scarlet Knights, tying for 14th overall. The pair each shot a six-over-par 148 for the tournament, with Pittman carding rounds of 77 and even-par 71, while Morales finished with rounds of 73 and 75.
Senior Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ) shot a 150 (77-73) to tie for 27th overall, while sophomore Seth Hirschhorn (Willingboro, NJ) was one stroke behind his teammate, carding a 151 (73-78) for the tournament to finish tied for 30th.
Junior Michael Kosup (Flemington, NJ) rounded out the Scarlet Knight contingent with a 159 (81-78) to tie for 76th overall.
The Scarlet Knights will host the Rutgers Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers University Golf Course.
