PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Several current, future and former Scarlet Knights are busy on the links this summer competing in notable events both in the United States and abroad.
Rising senior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) and recent senior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) will compete in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newtown, Kansas, from July 14-19. The winner of the event will likely receive an invitation to the next Masters Tournament. Stockl carded a four under par 138 (70-68-71) to win the 90-player Rutgers Invitational this past September. Renza competed in 42 career tournaments in Scarlet and was an academic all-conference honoree. Rising junior Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) will be competing in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Atlantic Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, from August 11-17. The winner of the event will likely receive an invitation to the next Masters Tournament. Chang was recently named to the Division I Ping All-Northeast Region Team. Playing in first position, he had another strong season for the Scarlet Knights and led the team in scoring in each of the final five tournaments this past spring. Incoming freshman signee Toks Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria) will compete in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from August 19-26. A product of Hilton Head Preparatory School in Hilton Head, S.C., Pedro represented Nigeria in the 2013 Junior World Golf Championship at Torrey Pines and placed first in the 2013 Veritas World Junior. Former Rutgers golfer Frank Esposito (Monroe, N.J.) recently competed in the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Okla. from July 10-13. The head pro at Brooklake in Florham Park, the 51-year-old is the reigning New Jersey Senior Open champ. He'll look to become the first repeat winner at the New Jersey State Golf Association Open Championship in nearly two decades. In the past year, Esposito won his second New Jersey Open, won his fifth New Jersey PGA section, won the New Jersey PGA's Match Play title and placed 45th at a Champions Tour event.
