WILLIAMBURG, Va. – Rutgers men’s golf is 16th with a 606 (304-302) total after the opening two rounds of the 27-team Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, played Sunday and Monday on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort. Sophomore Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) has a 146 (72-74) to pace the Scarlet Knights and enters Tuesday’s final round tied for 31st in the 140-player field.
Monday’s 18 was played in clear but cold conditions, with wind gusts off the river adding additional challenges. Tuesday’s final round is slated for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start, but inclement weather in the forecast.
Chang’s 27 pars through 36 holes is the second most among all competitors.
Senior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) has also performed well and is tied for 47th with a 149 (74-75). He is even in par three scoring and has 25 pars.
Junior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) and freshmen Michael Howe (Temecula, Calif.) and Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) comprise the rest of the Rutgers scorecard. Stockl is tied for 107th with a 157 (82-75), Howe is tied for 112th with a 158 (80-78) and Wheatley is tied for 118th with a 159 (78-81).
William & Mary is hosting the event on the 6,765-yard course. Also competing are Appalachian State, Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Dayton, Delaware, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Mason, Georgetown, IPFW, James Madison, Longwood, Loyola (Ill.), Loyola (Md.), Miami (Ohio), Penn State, Radford, St. Joseph's, Temple, Texas Tech, Towson, UNC Greensboro and Wright State.
Texas Tech is in first place with a 566 (288-278) total, eight strokes better than second place Eastern Michigan. Individually, Radford’s Ryan Rettberg is atop the leaderboard with a 136 (69-67).
