Raleigh, N.C. (October 8, 2013) – Rutgers men’s golf placed tied for ninth with an 887 (286-294-307) total at the 17-team Wolfpack Intercollegiate, played Monday and Tuesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State. Senior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding an even par 216 (70-73-73) to finish tied for 11th in the 90-player field.
Renza was minus three in par three scoring and had 11 birdies.
Sophomore Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) also performed well in the competitive field. He placed tied for 30th with a 221 (73-72-76). Chang registered a tournament-best 43 pars.
Senior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.), junior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) and freshman Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Walters tied for 47th with a 224 (73-77-74), Stockl tied for 72nd with a 230 (70-72-88) and Wheatley tied for 84th with a 240 (76-80-84) on the par 72, 7,358-yard course.
East Tennessee State won the event with an 843 (276-281-286), besting second place UNC-Greensboro by 11 strokes. Host N.C. State finished in the show position with an 865. Individually, UNCG’s Carter Jenkins placed atop the leaderboard with a 13-under par 203 (65-63-75).
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte, returns to the links Oct. 27-28 at the Lehigh Invitational.
