Raleigh, N.C. – Rutgers men’s golf is in seventh place with a 580 (286-294) total after day one of the 17-team Wolfpack Intercollegiate, played Monday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at N.C. State. Junior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights through 36 holes, carding a two-under 142 (70-72) to enter Tuesday tied for 12th in the 90-player field.
Senior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and sophomore Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) also performed well in the competitive field and are among the top 30 competitors. Renza is tied for 19th with a 143 (70-73) and Chang is tied for 27th with a 145 (73-72).
Seniors Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) and freshman Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) comprise the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Walters is tied for 58th with a 150 (73-77) and Wheatley is tied for 80th with a 156 (76-80) on the par 72, 7,358-yard course.
UNC-Greensboro carded a 22-under 554 (276-278) and leads second place East Tennessee State by three strokes. East Carolina is in the show position with a 566. Individually, UNCG’s Carter Jenkins is atop the leaderboard by a measure of six strokes with a 16-under par 128 (65-63).
The third round of the Intercollegiate tees-off at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
