SOUTH KENT, Conn. – Rutgers men’s golf leads the 17-team Hartford Hawks Invitational with a 584 (296-288) score after the opening two rounds, played Monday at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club. Senior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) carded a four-under par 140 (72-68) to enter Tuesday’s final round tied for second in the 96-player field.
Walters is minus three in both par three and par five scoring and also has 10 birdies to his credit.
Junior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.), coming off a victory at the Rutgers Invitational, is also among the top five competitors. He is fifth with an even par 144 (71-73). Stockl is minus three in par five scoring and has 24 pars.
Sophomore Jonathan Chang (Valenica, Calif.), freshman Michael Howe (Temecula, Calif.) and senior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) comprise the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Chang is 13th with a 147 (76-71), Howe is tied for 49th with a 156 (80-76) and Renza is tied for 55th with a 157 (77-80).
The Scarlet Knights lead tournament host Hartford by a single stroke. Individually, UH’s Evan Russell is atop the leaderboard with a seven-under par 137 (74-63).
The third and final round tees-off Tuesday morning.
