Bethlehem, Pa. – The Rutgers men’s golf team is in third place with a 300 total after the opening round of the Lehigh Invitational, played Saturday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Freshman Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a one-under par 71 to enter Sunday’s final round tied for third in the 45-player field.
Junior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) also performed well for RU. He carded a 75 on the 6,835-yard course and sits tied for 13th.
Sophomore Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.), senior John Fagan (Flemington, N.J.) and junior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) comprise the rest of the team scorecard. Stockl and Fagan are tied for 16th with 77’s. Renza is tied for 31st with an 80.
Villanova leads the Invitational with a 284, 11 strokes better than second place Fordham (295).
The second and final round tees-off Sunday morning with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
