South Kent, Conn. (September 25, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s golf team placed seventh with a 908 (300-303-305) total at the 16-team Hartford Hawks Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club. Junior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 224 (76-73-75) to finish tied for 15th in the 88-player field.
Walters was minus two in par five scoring and had 33 pars.
Sophomore Hyung Mo Kim (Norwood, N.J.) joined Walters in the top 20, posting a 226 (73-77-76) to tie for 19th. He had nine birdies and an eagle in the 54-hole event.
Freshman Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) struggled in the final round after a strong performance on Monday. He carded a 228 (74-73-81) to place tied for 27th.
Sophomore Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) and junior Dillon Corbo (Montville, N.J.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Stockl tied for 39th with a 232 (77-82-73) and Corbo tied for 79th with a 251 (90-80-81). Stockl registered a tournament-best two eagles.
Tournament host Hartford won the Invitational with an 875 (286-298-291), 20 strokes better than second place Boston College. Temple’s Brandon Matthews captured individual medalist honors with a 214 (74-68-72).
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte, returns to the links at the Waterville Collegiate Classic, October 15-16, in County Kerry, Ireland.
