South Kent, Conn. – The Rutgers men’s golf team is in sixth place with a 603 (300-303) total after the opening two rounds of the 16-team Hartford Hawks Invitational, played Monday at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club. Freshman Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a three-over 147 (74-73) to enter Tuesday’s final round tied for sixth in the 88-player field.
Junior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) also performed exceptionally well for RU, carding a 149 (76-73) to sit tied for 14th. Sophomore Hyung Mo Kim (Norwood, N.J.) made three Scarlet Knights in the top 20, after posting a 150 (73-77) to tie for 18th.
Sophomore Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) and junior Dillon Corbo (Montville, N.J.) comprise the rest of the team scorecard. Stockl is tied for 59th with a 159 (77-82) and Corbo is tied for 82nd with a 170 (90-80).
Tournament host Hartford is in first place with a 584 (297-296), nine strokes better than second place Rhode Island. Hawks’ junior Patrick Ross and Temple’s Brandon Matthews lead the event with a 142 totals through 36 holes.
The final round begins Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
