PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The RU men's golf team will host the Rutgers Invitational this Friday and Saturday, September 14-15, at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Two rounds will be played on Friday and one round will be contested on Saturday in the 54-hole event.
The Invitational will mark the second event of the fall season for the Scarlet Knights. RU returns six letterwinners under head coach Rob Shutte.
The RU Golf Course was founded in 1961 with the construction of the present day 18-hole layout that was expertly designed by Hal Purdy, a noted golf architect. The course was officially opened May 29, 1963. Today, the par-71 Rutgers Golf Course (par-72 for women) can be stretched to 6,337 yards and features a course rating of 70.5 and a slope of 130.
Over the past decade, the course has undergone extensive renovations and updates, which include a modern irrigation system, the addition of several bunkers and the planting of many trees, including a host of impressive evergreens. Once a rather wide-open tract, today's Rutgers Golf Course features a host of tree-lined holes, featuring undulating greens and water that comes into play on five holes.
Competing teams are Rutgers, Adelphi, Daemen, Fairfield, FDU, Lafayette, Manhattan, Monmouth, Rider, St. Francis (N.Y.), St. Peter’s, Seton Hall, St. Thomas Aquinas, defending tournament champion USC Upstate and Wagner.
The Invitational begins via a 7:30 a.m. start on Friday. Results will be posted on the athletics web site at the conclusion of each day.
