STATE COLLEGE, PA – The Rutgers men’s golf team is in 12th place with a 317 team score after the opening round of the 14-team Rutherford Intercollegiate, played Saturday on the Penn State Blue Course. Sophomore Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and freshman Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights in round one, carding 78s to enter the second round tied for 35th in the 78-player field.
The second round was also slated to be played on Saturday, but scores were unavailable. The 36-hole event resumes on Sunday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
Junior John Fagan (Flemington, N.J.) is tied for 54th with an 80, sophomore Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) is tied for 58th with an 81 and freshman Hyung Mo Kim (Norwood, N.J.) is tied for 75th with an 85.
George Mason carded the best opening round with a 301, one stroke better than second place IUP. George Mason’s Kevin Yerks is atop the leader board after 18 holes, carding an even par 71 on the 7,202-yard course.
