Aug. 8, 2016 PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Yard @ College Ave, located at the heart of the historic College Avenue Campus, will show the Rutgers at Washington football game live via its 12x30-foot, high definition video board at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 as part of the first official Rutgers Watch Party of the season. Made possible via a partnership between the Pac-12 Network and IMG College, it will mark the first event at the 14-story, U-shaped university apartment building at the corner of College Avenue and Hamilton Street.
"We are very thankful to our IMG College partners, the Pac-12 Network and RU-tv for making this feed possible," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Hobbs. "We are thrilled that the Rutgers community will come together in this collegial and exciting environment to support our team in its season opener."
Students and fans are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the game upon The Yard's 25,000-square foot public green space. The event will be structured similar to a home game, with third down and touchdown music, cheer and dance squads. The band and mascot will also contribute to the experience. A D.J. will play pregame, halftime and postgame music and various sponsor activations will take place.
"The Yard @ College Avenue is one of the most unique and innovative college-community spaces in America," said Christopher Paladino, President of the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO). "Thanks to Rutgers, IMG and our retail partners, we have successfully created a vibrant residential, retail and outdoor space that will be the envy of college campuses across the country. The Yard will bring students, alumni, and the broader community together to enjoy the new 'front porch' of the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus."
Food and refreshments will be available via local retailers located in The Yard, including Starbucks, Surf Taco, House of Cupcakes, Honeygrow, RU Hungry, Krispy Pizza, Bella's Burger Shack, Jersey Mike's and At Your Doorstop convenience store. Parking will be available at the Gateway Garage, located at 7 Wall Street, and at additional New Brunswick Parking Authority lots.
DEVCO, a private, nonprofit urban real estate development organization, created The Yard. The complex opens this fall semester and will feature 135 single-bedroom apartments (up to four bedrooms per unit) for 442 students.
