ROSEMONT, ILL. – Redshirt senior Julian Pinnix-Odrick of the football team and senior Tori Prager of the women’s soccer team were honored by the Big Ten Conference as Rutgers University's Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners, the league announced Wednesday.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution.
All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Pinnix-Odrick, who earned the Homer Hazel Award as the team MVP, was voted a captain in 2016 and led the defense with 10 tackles-for-loss and five sacks on the season. Totaling 52 stops in 12 starts at defensive end with three pass break-ups and a forced fumble, he statistically had his best game of the season with 12 tackles with 1.5 sacks in the victory over New Mexico.
The communication major also achieved in the classroom with recognition on the conference academic team four times, including taking Academic All-Big Ten status in each of the past three years. In addition, Pinnix-Odrick is credited with mentoring younger teammates and representing the program in a positive light.
Prager started all 23 games as a midfielder and team captain in 2016. The Mount Laurel, New Jersey, native was a part of the second senior class in program history to advance to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, helped the team to three conference finals, and won nearly 60 matches.
Overall, Prager started 47 matches and played in 87 as a Scarlet Knight, tallying nine points in her career (2g, 5a). Her total of 87 career matches played is tied for seventh in the Rutgers’ record books. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and marketing major, Prager has led by example on and off the pitch for the Scarlet Knights since arriving in 2013.
