PISCATAWAY, NJ – On a warm and overcast afternoon in Rutgers Stadium, the Rutgers football team held its second scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday.
An early highlight in the scrimmage came when sophomore kicker Mike Cortese (Jackson, NJ) booted a 55-yard field goal through the uprights.
Cortese’s fellow placekickers also enjoyed success in the scrimmage, as senior Ryan Sands (Shenendoah, PA) connected on a 26-yard field goal, and sophomore Justin Musiek (Hanover, NH) was good on his lone attempt from 25 yards out.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Hart (Coral Springs, FL) completed 8-of-19 passes for 157 yards in his stint. Senior Ted Trump (Delran, NJ) completed 5-of-12 for 60 yards, while a pair of youngsters, sophomore Anthony Cali (Columbus, NJ) and freshman Terrence Shawell (Pottstown, PA) also saw action. Cali completed 4-of-6 passes for 22 yards, while Shawell was 3-of-7 for 55 yards.
Junior Marcus Jones (St. Augustine, FL) paced the running backs with 37 yards on five carries, while sophomore Markis Facyson (Fort Lauderdale, FL) added 32 yards on six carries. Junior Clarence Pittman (Miami, FL) contributed 21 yards on six carries.
Sophomore fullback Brian Leonard came out of the backfield to catch four passes for 56 yards, while freshman tight end Sam Johnson (Midland Park, NJ) hauled in two catches for 25 yards.
