  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers football team will open practice for the 2003 season on August 6 in preparation for the August 30 season opener vs. Buffalo. The first 16 practices of training camp will be open to the public (practice schedule listed below).

    In addition, the team will host its annual Fan Fest on Friday, August 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The event will take place on the practice field adjacent to the Bubble, directly across from Rutgers Stadium. Rutgers Kids’ Zone events including amusements and temporary tattoos will be available for FREE to everyone. Food, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase, and the Rutgers Cheer/Dance teams and Rutgers Pep Band will be on hand to perform during the event. The Rutgers Ticket Office, Scarlet R, Touchdown Club and Football Fan-ees will be on hand as well, and free 2003 Rutgers Football posters will be available for players and coaches to sign for fans.

    Under the direction of third-year head coach Greg Schiano, Rutgers will open its season at home on August 30 vs. Buffalo before heading to Michigan State on Sept. 6 and Army on Sept. 13. The Scarlet Knights then return home for two games (Sept. 27 vs. Navy and Oct. 4 vs. Virginia Tech) before traveling to West Virginia on Oct. 11. Saturday, October 18 will serve as Homecoming when Rutgers hosts Pittsburgh, prior to road games at Temple (Oct. 25) and Connecticut (Nov. 8). Home games with Boston College (Nov. 15) and Syracuse (Nov. 29), between the final away game at Miami (Nov. 22), round out the schedule.

    DIRECTIONS TO RUTGERS STADIUM COMPLEX

    From New Jersey Turnpike (North or South)
    Turn off at Exit 9. After toll booths bear to the right; follow signs for "Route 18 North - New Brunswick."
    Continue along Route 18 North past the exits for "Route 27" and "Rutgers University"and proceed over the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. (Approx. 3.7 miles)
    On the other side of river proceed straight at the traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
    Make first left onto Sutphen Road.

    From Garden State Parkway (North or South)

    Southbound - Coming from northern New Jersey
    Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south.
    Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North, below.
    Northbound - Coming from southern New Jersey (below Exit 105)
    Turn off at Exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North.
    After approximately 24 miles you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike and continue on Route 18 North.
    Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North, below.

    Northbound (above Exit 105)
    Follow Parkway over Driscoll Bridge and take Exit 127 (Route 440 North). Follow Route 440 North (it becomes Route 287 North). Follow directions for Route 287 North, below.
    From Route 18
    Follow Route 18 North past the exits for "Route 27" and "Rutgers University"and proceed over the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. (Approx. 3.7 miles)
    On the other side of river proceed straight at the traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
    Make first left onto Sutphen Road.

    From Route 1 (North or South)
    Turn off at exit marked "Route 18 North-New Brunswick"
    Continue along Route 18 North past the exits for "Route 27" and "Rutgers University"and proceed over the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. (Approx. 3.7 miles)
    On the other side of river proceed straight at the traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
    Make first left onto Sutphen Road.

    From Route 287 (North or South)
    Turn off at Exit 9 (formerly Exit 5) "River Road, Bound Brook, Highland Park".
    Proceed East on River Road toward Highland Park until you reach the fifth traffic light (approximately 3.4 miles) at the intersection of River Road, Metlars Lane and Route 18. For specific campuses follow the directions below.
    Turn left at the River Road traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
    Make first left onto Sutphen Road.

    DIRECTIONS TO LIVINGSTON CAMPUS PRACTICE FIELDS

    Follow identical directions from above but instead of making left onto Sutphen Road, proceed straight. At the first traffic light make a right onto Avenue E for Livingston Campus. Make first left onto Hospital Road.
