  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Standout defensive lineman Nate Robinson of Irvington High School has signed an institutional letter to attend Rutgers University and play football for the Scarlet Knights, it was announced today. Robinson will be eligible to compete beginning in the upcoming 2003 season.

The 6-5, 305-pound Robinson was regarded as the top high school defensive lineman in the country coming out of Irvington High School. Robinson was rated as the top defensive prospect in New Jersey and was a All-America selection by both The Insiders.com/CNNSI.com and SuperPrep. He was a consensus Top 30 player nationally following his senior season.

“Nate is a fine football player and a fine young man, who we have known for a long time,” said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. “Over the years we have developed a great relationship with Nate and his family. We’re thrilled to have him as a member of the Rutgers football team.”

As a junior in 2001, Robinson recorded 82 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss. The All-State lineman displayed his speed and agility with 14 quarterback sacks, and also knocked down nine passes and caused six fumbles.

While Robinson missed most of his senior season due to an injury, he was rated the nation’s No. 10 player on The Insiders.com Top 100, rated the nation’s No. 21 player on Allen Wallace’s SuperPrep Elite 50, and the No. 15 defensive tackle by Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report. Robinson was also named to the New Jersey Football Coaches Association’s Super 100 Team.
