PISCATAWAY, N.J. Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, which hits newsstands June 9, has ranked Rutgers No. 16 in its preseason rankings. The magazine selected junior offensive tackle Anthony Davis (Piscataway, N.J.) a Preseason Third-Team All-American and tabbed Rutgers’ offensive line as the eighth-best in the nation.

The Scarlet Knights are Phil Steele’s pick to win the BIG EAST.

Individually, three Scarlet Knights were selected among the top 25 players at their position in the nation. Davis was rated as the fifth-best offensive tackle nationally while senior Ryan Blaszczyk (Medford Lakes, N.J.) was rated as the No. 22 center and junior Joe Lefeged (Germantown, Md.) was ranked the No. 15 strong safety in the country.

The Scarlet Knights closed out the 2008 season with seven consecutive victories, including a 29-23 win over NC State in the PapaJohns.com Bowl. The Scarlet Knights have appeared in four consecutive bowls and have won three straight bowl championships.

The seven-game win streak is tied for the fourth longest active streak in the nation.

Rutgers opens the 2009 season Monday, Sept. 7 vs. Cincinnati at the newly-expanded Rutgers Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN.
