  • PISCATAWAY, N.J.  – Rutgers sophomore tailback Ray Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and junior defensive tackle Eric Foster (Homestead, Fla.) were named to the Associated Press All-America teams Tuesday. Rice was named a Second Team AP All-America while Foster collected Third Team All-America honors. Rice was also named a Second Team All-America by The Sporting News Tuesday.

It marks the first time since 1995 a Rutgers player earned AP All-America honors. The last Scarlet Knight to earn the award was tight end Marco Battaglia, who was a First Team AP All-America selection 11 years ago.

The selection of two Scarlet Knights in the same season to the AP First, Second or Third team is a first in school history for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have earned multiple selections in the same year on the AP Honorable Mention All-America units, but never on the first, second or third teams.

In addition, The Sporting News named freshman defensive end George Johnson (Glassboro, N.J.) and redshirt freshman defensive back Devin McCourty (Nanuet, N.Y.) to its BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
