  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Three Rutgers football games, including the Scarlet Knights’ season opener at Illinois on September 3, will be televised nationally during the 2005 season. In addition, the Scarlet Knights are expected to be a part of the BIG EAST “Game of the Week” package multiple times in 2005, including the November 5 match up against South Florida at Rutgers Stadium. YES Network will also air at least one Rutgers game while Fox Sports New York will air two Rutgers games.

The Scarlet Knights will kick off the season at Illinois on September 3 at noon, with the game televised by ESPN2. It marks the second consecutive year that the Scarlet Knights’ season opener will appear on national television against a Big 10 opponent. Rutgers opened the 2004 campaign with a 19-14 win over Michigan State, which was televised by ABC-TV.

The Scarlet Knights will make two additional appearances on ESPN2 in 2005, both on Friday nights. Rutgers will host BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh on September 30, and will travel to Louisville for another Conference match up on November 11. Both Friday night games are slated to kick off at 8:00 pm.

Rutgers’ game against South Florida on November 5 will air on the MSG Network as the BIG EAST “Game of the Week.” YES Network will air the Scarlet Knights game at Buffalo on September 17 at 8:00 pm. Fox Sports New York will air the Navy and Cincinnati games tape delay at 11:30 pm. Additional games (either live or tape delay) will be added to the television broadcast schedule and will be announced at a later date.

In 2004, all 11 Rutgers games were televised, with the Scarlet Knights appearing on ABC, ESPN2, CSTV, Fox Sports New York and MSG during the season.
