  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior defensive tackle David Harley has signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings, becoming the fourth member of last season’s Rutgers football team to move on to the NFL.

    Following the completion of the NFL Draft on Sunday, April 24, defensive tackles Gary Gibson and J’Vonne Parker, and safety Jarvis Johnson signed free agent pacts. Gibson and Johnson cast their lot with the Baltimore Ravens, while Parker signed with the Cleveland Browns.

    The 6-1, 300-pound Harley, of Tallahassee, FL., was a two-year letterwinner for the Scarlet Knights, appearing in 22 games in 2003 and 2004. He registered 45 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss in two seasons at Rutgers. As a senior in 2004, Harley was in on 16 tackles in 10 games. In 2003, Harley recorded 29 tackles in 12 games, and led the BIG EAST Conference with three fumble recoveries.

    Harley came to Rutgers after two seasons at Pasadena City College. In two years at Pasadena, he was in on 69 tackles. In his second season in 2002, Harley posted 51 tackles and was named First Team All-Mission Conference, leading the team to an 8-3 record. In two seasons at Pasadena City College, Harley’s team posted an 18-4 mark. Harley earned All-City honors as a defensive lineman at Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School in 2000.

    In 2003 - Made an immediate impact on the defensive line, playing in all 12 games … Registered 29 tackles (12 solo, 17 assisted) and had 6.5 tackles-for-loss … Also picked up one sack (9/13 at Army) … Led BIG EAST with three fumble recoveries … Had at least one tackle in each of his first 11 games, including a season-high five at Michigan State (9/6) … Also had four stops vs. Virginia Tech (10/4) and Boston College (11/15).

    Scholastic/Personal - Posted 51 tackles in 2002, leading his team to an 8-3 mark, despite playing with a pulled hamstring and dislocated elbow for much of the season … Named First Team All-Mission Conference … Played on a 2001 squad that posted a 10-1 record … Posted 18 tackles with three sacks as a freshman in 2001 … Played in the California-Florida All-Star Game at the Rose Bowl in 2000 as a senior … Was an All-City lineman and played on the state championship football team as a senior at Lincoln … Led the district in tackles for loss with 27, including six sacks … Regarded a hard worker in the weight room … Was also a member of the Lincoln HS weight-lifting team and was an individual state champion, benching 475 pounds and lifting 300 in the clean and jerk as a senior… Born 6/23/82.
