  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The White team earned a 23-3 victory in the annual Scarlet-White Rutgers Football Spring Game April 23 at Rutgers Stadium.

“The kids had a good time, and it was a nice culmination to the spring,” said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. “Now we’ll look forward to finishing the semester and going into our summer program, which is critical in the development of any team.”

The White’s first score came on a safety, as senior Will Gilkison (Union Beach, NJ) pulled down the Scarlet ball carrier in the end zone in the game’s first six minutes. Senior quarterback Ryan Hart (Coral Springs, FL) later connected with classmate Tres Moses (Delray Beach, FL) for a 22-yard touchdown at the 1:40 mark of the first quarter. Sophomore Jeremy Ito (Redlands, CA) converted the extra-point attempt, giving the White an early 9-0 lead.

Senior Clarence Pittman (Miami, FL) pushed the White’s advantage to 16-0 thanks to a six-yard touchdown run with 8:50 to play in the third quarter.
The Scarlet scored their only points of the afternoon less than eight minutes later, when Ito was successful on his 35-yard field-goal attempt, making the score 16-3 with 75 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The White tacked on their final score of the day in the game’s closing 35 seconds, when Hart found freshman Keith Taylor (Elizabeth, NJ) for an 11-yard touchdown.

For the White, Hart completed 16 of 24 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Moses caught four passes for 91 yards, and Pittman carried 19 times for 91 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, senior Ryan Neill (Wayne Hills, NJ) had five tackles, including three sacks. Junior Joe Porter (Franklin, NJ) had four tackles and an interception.

For the Scarlet, sophomore Terrence Shawell (Pottstown, PA) completed seven of 19 passes for 53 yards. Junior Anthony Cali (Columbus, NJ) caught two passes for 33 yards, and sophomore Jean Beljour (Hackensack, NJ) produced 34 yards on seven carries. Defensively, freshman Chenry Lewis (Paterson, NJ) recorded a game-high 12 tackles, and freshman Jamaal Westerman (Brampton, Ontario) had seven tackles, including three sacks.

The Scarlet-White Game consisted of four 15-minute quarters, and time was stopped only for touchdowns, injuries and penalties. Hits were not allowed on the quarterbacks, and there were no kickoffs, punt returns or blitzes.

Proceeds from the Scarlet-White Game will benefit the pediatric units of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and St. Peter’s University Hospital.
In the previous 11 years, the Scarlet-White Game has raised more than $60,000 for the two hospitals.
