PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University football team will face an 11-game schedule in the 2005 season that features six home games at Rutgers Stadium and includes two nationally televised Friday night games.
For the second consecutive season, the Scarlet Knights will open the season against a Big Ten opponent when they travel to Illinois on Sept. 3. Rutgers then hosts Villanova in its home opener on Sept. 10, and is at Buffalo on Sept. 17.
After a bye week, the Scarlet Knights open play in the BIG EAST Conference by hosting Pittsburgh in their first-ever Friday night game, to be televised by ESPN or ESPN2. Rutgers continues play in the BIG EAST when it hosts West Virginia on Oct. 8, before consecutive road games at Syracuse (Oct. 15) and at Connecticut (Oct. 22). The Scarlet Knights play their final non-conference game on Oct. 29 when they face Navy at home.
Rutgers will face the three newest members of the BIG EAST Conference in November, hosting South Florida on Nov. 5, before visiting Louisville on Nov. 11 in its second Friday night game of the season, which will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2. The Scarlet Knights conclude their regular season when Cincinnati visits on Nov. 26.
