PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 15, 2014) – “Legendary Moments,” a new social media feature that highlights some of the greatest moments in the 145-year history of Rutgers football, will serve as a three-week countdown starting on Saturday Aug. 16 through the home opener against Howard on Sept. 6, it was announced Friday.
The initiative is a cooperative effort involving Rutgers Athletics and the Rutgers University Alumni Association (RUAA).
A new Legendary Moment will be introduced on the Rutgers Athletics Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RutgersAthletics) each day leading up to the Howard game. It will provide three continuous weeks of memorable Rutgers Football highlights.
“Legendary Moments is an opportunity to engage our fans, while also generating excitement for the upcoming season,” said Andrew Robinson, Assistant Athletic Director for Creative Services and Fan Experience. “As we enter our first season in the historic Big Ten Conference, we want to celebrate our history and tradition while connecting our fan base with the tradition of Rutgers Football.”
The top six selected moments will be featured on signage at High Point Solutions Stadium and on the stadium video board during home games. Rutgers fans are encouraged to “like and share” their favorite legendary moments on Facebook for a chance to influence the selection of these top six moments. Each week fans can find a current Legendary Moments “Leaderboard” by checking the RUAA Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RutgersAlumni.
The “Legendary Moments” program is made possible by the RUAA, the official Alumni partner of Rutgers Athletics that serves all Rutgers University alumni.
“Celebrating legendary moments in Rutgers football history puts our entry into the Big Ten into the context of the university’s long history,” Donna Thornton, Vice President for Alumni Relations said. “This is an exciting time for Rutgers, and the Rutgers University Alumni Association is dedicated to helping alumni be a part of all the great advancements happening at the university.”
“RUAA was a natural partner for this initiative as many of the moments will take our alumni back in time to when they were `On The Banks,’ ” Robinson said. “For our younger generation of fans, `Legendary Moments’ will provide a gateway into the history of the Rutgers Football program.”
