Rutgers Football Announces Mid-Year Enrollees
Five True Freshmen Begin Classes This Week

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 20, 2014) – Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood welcomed five student-athletes to the Rutgers football program on Monday. The five players are enrolling for the spring semester at Rutgers, which begins Tuesday. All five are eligible to participate in spring practice for the Scarlet Knights.
    The five enrollees are all true freshmen: OL Marcus Applefield (Weeki Wachee, Fla.), TE Logan Lister (Katy, Texas), DB Kam Lott (Jacksonville, Fla.), LB Brandon Russell (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and DL Eric Wiafe (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.).
    Spring practice for the Scarlet Knights begins March 25 and culminates with the Scarlet-White game on Saturday, April 26 at High Point Solutions Stadium. A full day of events for the Scarlet-White game will be announced later this spring. Kickoff for the spring game is at 4 p.m.

    Prior to Rutgers: Enrolling early and will participate in spring practice … coached by Mark Lee at Weeki Wachee … first player from his high school to receive a Division I football scholarship offer … started every game and served as captain all four high school seasons … played in the 2013 Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Classic in Sebring, Fla. … consensus three-star recruit … ranked No. 31 among offensive tackles nationally by Scout.com … known for good feet and athleticism on the offensive line … projected by recruiting analysts to play left tackle … gained approximately 20 pounds as a senior and is still filling into frame … named All-North Suncoast by the Tampa Bay Times in 2013 … a four-year honor roll student.

    Katy, Texas/Katy

    Prior to Rutgers: Enrolling early and will participate in spring practice … coached by Gary Joseph at Katy … played offensive tackle as a senior, but will play tight end at Rutgers … high school offense centered around the running attack … played a key part blocking up front to help team go 15-1 as a senior and advanced to the UIL 5A D2 state championship game at AT&T Cowboys Stadium … team scored at least 51 points in five playoff victories … Tigers ranked as high as No. 4 in the USA Today Sports Super 25 … participated in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl as a tight end following senior season in Carson, Calif. … game recognizes academic, leadership and athletic excellence … part of National Sports News Service 2012 national championship team after going 16-0 as a junior … won the UIL 5A D2 state championship game that season … a three-star recruit by multiple recruiting services.

    Prior to Rutgers: Enrolling early and will participate in spring practice … coached by Marty Lee at First Coast … played mostly at cornerback, but also saw time at safety … team went 11-2 as a senior to win district title … Jacksonville Times Union All-First Coast selection … 41 total tackles and three interceptions as a senior … also a factor on special teams … collected 20 tackles and five interceptions as a junior, helping team to a 10-1 record … earned Times Union All-First Coast accolades as a junior … father, Reginald Lott, played cornerback for Middle Tennessee State … a three-star recruit by multiple recruiting services … one of three Jacksonville-area natives on the roster.

    Prior to Rutgers: Enrolling early and will participate in spring practice … coached by Roger Harriott at University … FHSAA Class 4A First Team All-State selection at linebacker … Sun-Sentinel All-Broward County selection on defense … finished senior season with 84 tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception … played first three seasons of high school football at Flanagan before transferring for senior season … helped team to a 10-3 record … led team to an appearance in the FHSAA 4A regional championship game … rated the No. 35 player in Broward County by the Sun-Sentinel … known for physicality and athleticism at the linebacker position … maintained over a 4.0 GPA in high school with an AP course load … of Bahamian descent … uncle attended Rutgers in the 1980s … a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com.

    Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township/Milford Academy

    Prior to Rutgers: Played at New Britain (N.Y.) Milford Academy in the fall of 2013 and enrolling at Rutgers in 2014, participating in spring practice … recorded 28 tackles, five TFLs, three sacks and a defensive touchdown, helping the team go 9-3 … projected to play three-technique position on defensive line by recruiting analysts …  played high school football for coach Tony DeRosa at Egg Harbor Township … former high school teammate of current Scarlet Knight defensive back Tejay Johnson … played both defensive tackle and tight end in high school … recorded 44 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a senior … Press of Atlantic City All-Star selection … 10 tackles and one reception for 19 yards in limited action as a junior … rated as the No. 20 prospect overall in New Jersey according to SuperPrep Magazine … a three-star recruit by multiple recruiting services … originally a member of the 2013 Rutgers signing class, but spent one year at Milford Academy.
