PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 16, 2014) – Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood announced Friday that redshirt freshman defensive back Ian Thomas (Baltimore, Md.) has returned to the Rutgers football program on a conditional basis. Thomas left the team last season following the Louisville game.
“This was a unique situation to be involved with,” said Flood. “Ian knows he will be starting back at square one and will need to prove to the coaching staff and his teammates he is all in. I have confidence he will work hard to regain our trust.”
Thomas appeared in six games and totaled eight tackles and recorded one interception in 2013. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
“I have learned a lot from the whole experience and was able to grow personally, spiritually and mentally,” said Thomas. “I made a commitment to the Rutgers football program and the right thing to do is to finish my commitment. I am very grateful to Coach Flood and my teammates for welcoming me back to the team.”
