PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 4, 2013) – Rutgers junior quarterback Gary Nova (Elmwood Park, N.J.) was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week today by the conference office. It marked the fourth time in Nova’s career he has been named the conference offensive player of the week and the second time this season he earned the honor.

Nova led Rutgers on a 72-yard drive, capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds left, to help theScarlet Knights rally past Temple 23-20. Nova finished the day 27-for-38 for 371 yards and three touchdowns, including two fourth-quarter TD passes thatgave Rutgers the lead. Nova was 5-for-7 for 72 yards on the game-winning drive as the Scarlet Knights took over on their own 28-yard line with 1:50 left in regulation.

Nova finished with a career-high 27 completions in the win and also netted a season-best 371 yards (second best yardage of his career). The 371 passing yards were the eighth-best single-game total in Rutgers history.

Sophomore wide receiver Leonte Carroo (Edison, N.J.) was named to the conference’s weekly honor for his performance in the Temple victory. Carroo recorded career-highs with seven receptions and 147 yards.

His two touchdowns bring his season total to nine, one short of the program single-season record. Carroo is tied for third in Rutgers single-season history with Mark Harrison (9, 2010), Tim Brown (9, 2009) and Bob Simms (9, 1958). Brandon Coleman (10, 2012) and Marco Battaglia (10, 1995) hold the single-season record with 10 touchdown receptions.

Eight of Carroo’s touchdowns have come in the fourth quarter or later in 2013. The game-winner was his second 33-yard score on fourth down in the fourth quarter this season.

Rutgers returns to action Saturday, November 16 at home vs. Cincinnati. Tickets to the game are available online at tickets.scarletknights.com or by calling 1-866-445-GORU.
