PISCATAWAY, NJ – Shukree Barfield, a 6-4, 290-pound All-State defensive lineman from Camden High School, has signed a letter of intent to play football at Rutgers University, it was announced today by head coach Greg Schiano.
Barfield, a first-team All-State selection by the Associated Press, was a standout lineman for Camden. As a senior, he registered 55 tackles, including seven sacks and two tackles for loss. Barfield also intercepted two passes, and returned one of the picks 50 yards for a touchdown against Holy Cross.
Barfield, who also played varsity basketball for Camden and averaged eight points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior, was rated the 15th-best player in NJ by Rivals.com and 54th-best defensive tackle nationally, was ranked the No. 20 player in New Jersey by SuperPrep.
Barfield is the 22nd player to sign a letter of intent to play football at Rutgers as a member of the 2004 recruiting class. Schiano announced the addition of 21 student-athletes at Rutgers’ annual Signing Day Press Conference on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
