PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 16, 2013) – After returning his first career kickoff for a 99-yard touchdown, senior Quron Pratt (Palmyra, N.J.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Sophomore Paul James (Glassboro, N.J.) and redshirt freshman Steve Longa (Saddle Brook, N.J.) both earned spots on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Bringing back a kickoff for the first time, Pratt put the Scarlet Knights up 14-3 over Eastern Michigan in the first quarter. It was the second return for a touchdown for Rutgers this season, as the team leads the conference with 43.7 yards per return. Pratt also blocked a punt in the previous game against Norfolk State.
James racked up 192 yards on the ground against the Eagles to bring his season total to 493 yards, the most in the nation through three weeks. The running back also recorded three touchdowns to bring his season total to six on the year. This is the second straight Weekly Honor Roll appearance for James.
Longa earned his first weekly honor after recording a game-high 12 tackles with two sacks last week. The middle linebacker leads RU with 29 tackles on the season, ranking fifth in the conference. He has also forced two fumbles and recovered one in 2013.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action Saturday against Arkansas at High Point Solutions Stadium. Kickoff on ESPN is set for 3:30 p.m.
