PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 29, 2013) – Thirteen members of the Rutgers football program have been named to Phil Steele’s 2013 Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team, which will officially hit newsstands June 18. The Scarlet Knights are represented by seven players on offense, including four on first team, six on defense and one on special teams.

The publication lists senior wide receiver Brandon Coleman (Accokeek, Md.) on first team in addition to offensive linemen junior Betim Bujari (Secaucus, N.J.), senior Antwan Lowery (Miami, Fla.) and junior Kaleb Johnson (Jacksonville, Fla.). RU has more players than any other team on the first team offensive unit.
Junior running back Savon Huggins (Jackson, N.J.) and senior tackle Andre Civil (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each earned the nod on second team, while senior tight end Paul Carrezola (Langhorne, Pa.) round outs the offensive selections on third team.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore tackle Darius Hamilton (West Paterson, N.J.), senior end Jamil Merrell (Bear, Del.) and senior linebacker Jamal Merrell (Bear, Del.) all take a spot on second team. The three combined for 140 tackles in 2012.
Fourth team selections include junior linebacker Kevin Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and junior safety Lorenzo Waters (Accokeek, Md.) on defense, with senior kick returner Jeremy Deering (Tampa, Fla.) representing special teams.

Rutgers will open the 2013 season Aug. 29 at Fresno State, with the first American Athletic Conference contest scheduled at SMU Oct. 5.
