PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 8, 2013) – Led by head coach Kyle Flood, members of the Rutgers football program recently spent time at the Embrace Kids Foundation in New Brunswick to provide encouragement and support. In addition to meeting the young patients, the Scarlet Knights signed autographs and took photographs.
“Embrace Kids Foundation exists to help families whose children have cancer, sickle cell disease or other blood disorders,” the official website reads. “The foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life of the children and to relieving families of emotional and financial pressures. Embrace Kids supports families throughout the greater New Jersey area.”
Two alums of the football program and NFL cornerbacks, Jason and Devin McCourty, have partnered with the Embrace Kids Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and New York Blood Center to start a campaign against sickle cell disease. The drive entitled “Tackle Sickle Cell” is underway and aims to educate the public, increase blood donors, and raise money & awareness for the fight against sickle cell disease. The next event is a 5K Run/Walk in Liberty State Park in Jersey City on June 9, 2013. Click here for more information.
