PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 16, 2013) – Rutgers senior linebacker Steve Beauharnais (Saddle Brook, N.J.) has accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl will be played on January 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game and its practice sessions will be televised live by the NFL Network.
Beauharnais is one of two Rutgers standouts to play in this year’s game, joining fellow linebacker Khaseem Greene (Elizabeth, N.J.) in the game.
One of 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation’s top linebacker, Beauharnais was named Rutgers’ team defensive MVP following the season. The senior captain finished with 76 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss for the nation’s No. 10 total defense. He finished with 268 career tackles and 35 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks over his four years “On the Banks.” Beauharnais played in 50 straight games with 40 consecutive starts.
Beauharnais was a key member of a Rutgers defense that finished sixth nationally in rushing defense and fourth nationally in scoring defense.
The Senior Bowl is college football's premier pre-draft event, annually featuring the nation's best senior collegiate football stars and top NFL draft prospects on teams coached by NFL coaching staffs. Senior Bowl practices and game week festivities are attended by more than 800 general managers, head coaches, assistant coaches, scouts and other front office personnel from all 32 National Football League teams, making Mobile and the Senior Bowl the weeklong host to a one-of-a-kind NFL Coaches Convention.
