PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 8, 2012) – Rutgers senior defensive back Duron Harmon (Magnolia, Del.) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District II First Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Harmon has compiled a cumulative 3.412 grade point average (GPA) as a Labor Studies major. He has earned All-BIG EAST Academic Team recognition twice, with those honors coming as a sophomore in 2010 and last season as a junior. He additionally made Rutgers University’s Dean’s List for the 2011-12 academic year with a term GPA of 3.5 or higher.
By making the District II First Team, Harmon is eligible to be selected as a Capital One Academic All-American, with voting beginning for First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
The Scarlet Knight defender has been named a finalist for the ARA Sportsmanship Award and Senior CLASS Award. Harmon was also selected as a semifinalist for the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Semifinalist Awards and the William V. Campbell Trophy.
Harmon is in his second year as a starter and leader in Rutgers’ defensive secondary. He was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection at free safety in 2011, recording 49 tackles and ranking second in the conference with five interceptions. This season, Harmon has continued his strong play by recording 24 tackles (20 solo), 1.0 tackle-for-loss, one interception and five pass breakups.
Rutgers returns to action at home in High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Army, with kickoff set for 12 noon on ESPNU.
