PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2012) – In support of Rutgers Athletics’ efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy at the Rutgers vs. Army game on Saturday, Nov. 11, ShopRite and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey will be holding a food drive outside High Point Solutions Stadium.
Fans are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable foods and deposit them at bins set up outside the North, West, and East gates of the stadium. All food collected during the drive will be donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. All fans that donate food at the North gate will receive a ShopRite reusable grocery bag while supplies last.
Fans are reminded that the Red Cross will be located throughout High Point Solutions Stadium collecting donations during the day. In addition, fans who wish to donate to the Red Cross Relief Fund can do so via text message by sending the text “REDCROSS” to 90999.
Rutgers Athletics also designed a t-shirt with the state outline of New Jersey and the word “stRong” featured on the t-shirt. Fans can purchase the t-shirt for $15 with ALL proceeds going to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
Fans can purchase the t-shirt at Saturday’s football game, Friday at the RAC during the men’s basketball game against Saint Peter’s (7:30 p.m.) or at Scarlet Fever in downtown New Brunswick. Several student groups will also sell the t-shirt on campus this week.
The Rutgers & Livingston Alumni Associations will also be co-hosting a coat drive at the Army game. Fans are encouraged to donate new or gently used coats in an effort to help our New Jersey neighbors in need during the cold winter months. Collection bins will be located outside of the North, West, and East Gates at High Point Solutions Stadium.
