PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 15, 2012) – Rutgers senior linebacker Khaseem Greene (Elizabeth, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announces Monday. In addition, Rutgers junior linebacker Jamal Merrell (Bear, Del.) was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for his blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown in the Syracuse win.
Greene was all over the field in Rutgers’ 23-15 victory over Syracuse. The 2011 Co-BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year totaled 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks, forced three fumbles and had an interception against the Orange. Greene’s stellar performance has helped RU to a 6-0 record and 3-0 mark in the BIG EAST. Rutgers is 6-0 for the first time since 2006.
Rutgers ranked No. 15 in the BCS Standings, return to action Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field versus Temple in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for 12 noon on the BIG EAST Network (SNY, WPVI-6 ABC).
