PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 28, 2012) – Behind 18-of-20 combined passing by junior QB Chas Dodd (Lyman, S.C.) and sophomore QB Gary Nova (Elmwood Park, N.J.), Scarlet defeated White 35-0 on Saturday inside High Point Solutions Stadium. Dodd tossed touchdowns to sophomore WR Brandon Coleman (Accokeek, Md.) and senior WR Tim Wright (Wall Township, N.J.), while Nova had one scoring throw to Wright.
A crowd of 15,000 was on hand as Rutgers closed out its first spring practice under head coach Kyle Flood.
Running backs Savon Huggins (Jackson, N.J.) and Jawan Jamison (Starke, Fla.) both totaled 43 rushing yards for the Scarlet squad in the game. Jamison notched the game’s first score on a three-yard plunge with 5:05 left in the first period.
Coleman’s touchdown connection with Dodd at 1:57 in the first period, a 55-yard play, was the longest play of the game. In second quarter action, Nova completed a 44-yard pass to senior WR Mark Harrison (Stratford, Conn.).
The Scarlet team jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead from the scores by Jamison and Coleman, along with a one-yard plunge by sophomore FB Michael Burton (Long Valley, N.J.) at 6:08 in the second quarter. Wright’s touchdown grabs from Dodd and Nova were at 1:57 in the third quarter and 3:01 in the fourth quarter, respectively.
