PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 17, 2012) – For the first time in school history, Rutgers and Arkansas will meet on the gridiron as the two schools agreed to a home-and-home series, it was announced today. Rutgers will play at Arkansas in Fayetteville this upcoming season on Saturday, September 22, 2012 while the Razorbacks visit High Point Solutions Stadium in 2013 (Saturday, September 21, 2013).
“It is a constant priority to secure marquee scheduling opportunities for our football program and our fans,” said Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti. “This home-and-home series with Arkansas clearly illustrates another enhancement of that strategy. We are excited to have the Razorbacks as the first-ever SEC opponent to play at High Point Solutions Stadium and this agreement further enhances our future non-conference game schedule which includes Penn State, Miami and UCLA.”
Rutgers is 5-11-2 all-time versus SEC competition. The last time RU played a team from the SEC, the Scarlet Knights rallied for a 37-34 victory at Vanderbilt in 2004. All six home games against SEC opponents were at Giants Stadium, with Rutgers going 2-4 in those six contests.
Rutgers’ 2012 football schedule is still incomplete as the Scarlet Knights need to secure one opponent following West Virginia’s recent departure from the conference.
