PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore quarterback Ryan Hart (Coral Springs, FL) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 26. Hart shares the award with WVU’s Quincy Wilson and is the fourth Rutgers played to be honored by the league this season.
In Rutgers’ 30-14 win over Temple on Saturday, Hart completed 30-of-42 passes (71.8%) for 316 yards, setting a career high for completions. He also threw one touchdown, a seven-yard strike to Brian Leonard (Gouveneur, NY) and became the first RU quarterback in school history to throw for over 300 yards in back-to-back games. Hart threw for 384 yards vs. Pittsburgh on Oct. 18.
Through eight games this season, Hart is second in the BIG EAST in passing, averaging 243.9 yards per game. He has completed 59.1% of his passes (156-of-264), and his completion and attempts totals are both best in the conference. He is also second in total offense (227.9/game).
Hart has elevated himself to seventh on the single-season passing list at Rutgers with 1,951 yards and is within striking distance of Scott Erney’s record of 2,536 yards, set in 1989.
“Ryan did a nice job this weekend taking what the defense gave him,” said Schiano. “He is playing very efficiently and grasping the system very quickly for a young quarterback.”
Hart joins fellow Scarlet Knights Tres Moses (Special Teams, Sept. 1), Justise Hairston (Offensive, Sept. 29) and Brandon Haw (Defensive, Sept. 29) on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll this season.
