Tom McEntire began in the role of defensive assistant for Rutgers football in the spring of 2011. Previously, McEntire worked in player development for the Scarlet Knights football team from 2009-11. In his current position, McEntire has worked closely with the head football coach in all meetings and practices.
A former quarterback, running back and wide receiver at Thiel College (Pa.), McEntire has assisted in game day preparation at Rutgers. He has aided in the organization of the scout team and also been responsible for creating weekly playbook and game plan handouts.
McEntire brought coaching experience on the offensive and defensive side of the ball to his assistant position “On the Banks”. At the University of Maine from 2008-09, he served as the assistant defensive backs coach and also coached the kick returners. His focus involved the safety position, as well as opponent scouting. At his alma mater, McEntire was Thiel’s running backs coach from 2007-08 and wide receivers coach from 2006-07.
A 2006 graduate of Thiel College, McEntire earned a degree in business administration.
