PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 15, 2010) –The Rutgers field hockey team will team with Monmouth University to “Stick it to Cancer” on Sunday, Sept. 19 when the New Jersey squads meet at the Bauer Track & Field Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
“At some point, everyone will have been affected by this vicious disease,” said head coach Liz Tchou. “We are elated to participate in such a worthy cause and hope family and friends will support the teams in this drive.”
For nearly four decades, the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) has been a driving force behind many of the cancer treatments that are saving lives and making headlines today. Over the years, NFCR has helped millions of cancer patients, and much of this has been possible because of the continued loyal support of individuals, donors, and organizations.
In an effort to raise awareness, Rutgers and Monmouth have joined the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and the NFCR in playing for the cure. The only thing standing between cancer and cure is research funding. Rutgers will wear yellow arm band and shoe laces to show its support. T-shirts will also be sold at the Bauer Complex.
The Scarlet Knights are home for a pair of games this weekend. In addition to the Sunday contest versus the Hawks, RU entertains Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
