COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Rutgers field hockey (3-3) team fell to No. 3 Maryland (5-0) on Saturday, Sept. 13, 7-0, in the opening game of the 2003 Terrapin Invitational.
The Terps scored in the 18th minute when Amber McQuillan scored on a pass from freshman Paula Infante. McQuillan had two goals on the game. UM’s Sara Silvetti also notched two goals for Maryland, which tacked on goals on back-to-back penalty corners in the 24th and 31st minutes of the first half.
Maryland scored 19 seconds into the second half to make the score 5-0. Rutgers senior goalkeeper Meris Burton (Wilmington, DE) notched a season-high 11 saves.
The game was the first of the season at Maryland’s brand new Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Rutgers returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 14, at noon when it faces American in the Terrapin Invitational.
