PISCATAWAY, NJ – Jennifer Noon (Shavertown, PA) and Kamilah Lalani (West Vancouver, B.C.) each scored goals as Rutgers (3-1) defeated Dartmouth, 2-0, at the Rutgers Stadium Complex. The win was Rutgers’ second in a row.
Noon scored with 4:02 remaining in the first half off a penalty stroke. On the play, Noon’s shot hit the left post of the cage, but bounced in and past Dartmouth goalkeeper Lauren Balukjian. The goal was Noon’s team-leading third of the season. She also leads RU with six points.
In the second half, Lalani gave the Scarlet Knights an insurance goal when she scored off a rebound with 27:30 to play. It was Lalani’s first goal of the season, after finishing as RU’s leading scorer last season (six goals).
“Dartmouth is a strong team, so I feel very good about how we played today,” said Rutgers head coach Liz Tchou. “It was a total team effort, but the most gratifying part is that we’re improving and getting better every game. We were very focused and tough defensively.”
Rutgers goalkeeper Meris Burton (Wilmington, DE) made five saves and posted her first shutout of the season. Dartmouth outshot Rutgers 13-11and both teams had six penalty corners.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host Fairfield at 8:00 p.m. at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.
