The Wildcats were led by Christina Lugones who assisted on three goals and scored one of her own. Leah Lisausky started the scoring for Villanova with a penalty corner goal 1:44 into the match. Sarah Burdette scored on a penalty stroke after RU was called for a foul. Sarah Francis scored the third goal of the afternoon for the Wildcats, using a penalty corner goal, to give VU a 3-0 lead at the half.
Villanova came back in the second half, scoring two more early goals, but the RU defense didn’t allow another goal in the final 15 minutes of play. Freshman Aga Siemiginowska (Winchester, MA) made 14 saves while the team was credited with a save as well. Leading the Scarlet Knights on offense was Kamilah Lalani (West Vancouver, BC) with four shots. VU’s Meghan Helwig made four saves in goal.
Rutgers returns home to host local rival, No. 15 Princeton, on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.
