PISCATAWAY, NJ – Freshman Kim Scott (Somerdale, NJ), a back for the Rutgers University field hockey team, was named to the WomensFieldHockey.com Honor Roll list for the week of Oct. 3. Scott played a key roll in the Scarlet Knights’ 2-1 victory over the Temple Owls on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Scott, who saw action in only one game prior to Thursday’s match-up, was called upon by head coach Liz Tchou to play the role of kicker-back when sophomore goalie Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, PA) was held out of the contest due to an injury.
Playing without a goalie, the Scarlet Knights used Scott at the kicker-back position, a variation of the goalie position. At kicker-back, Scott was allowed to play the field during game action; however, whenever a penalty corner was awarded to Temple, Scott had to wear a goalie helmet and chest protector to play the role of stopper.
Tchou was uncertain of Wentko’s status until just before game time, making Scott’s presence on the defensive side of the field and in net that much more impressive and vital to the success of the Scarlet Knights against Temple.
The Scarlet Knights (6-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) will be in action on Friday, Oct. 7, when they play host to BIG EAST rival Providence (4-9, 0-1 BIG EAST) at 7:30 p.m. at the RU Stadium Complex.
