PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University field hockey team (3-2), which lost its first road game of the season on Friday at Delaware, returns home on Sunday, Sept. 11, to play host to the Leopards of Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. at the RU Stadium Complex.
After the 4-1 loss against Delaware, the Scarlet Knights will look at rebound against the 2-0 Leopards. Freshman forward Carrie Grainger (Island Heights, NJ) leads the Scarlet Knights currently with five points on the season (2 g, 1 a) while sophomores Catherine Badolato (Berlin, NJ), Marielle Zibman (Princeton Junction, NJ) and Jocelyn Mattina (Bethlehem, PA) all have four points apiece.
Lafayette enters the match against Rutgers with a record of 2-0, having beaten both Temple and Cornell by scores of 2-1. Senior midfielder Amanda Eggleston has scored in both Leopard games and she is currently the team leader in points with four (2 g).
RU and Lafayette have met 26 times in the past and the Scarlet Knights own the edge 13-12-1. Head coach Liz Tchou is 1-1 against Lafayette since taking over the Scarlet Knights in 2003 and earned her first win against the Leopards during the 2004 season with a 2-1 victory at the RU Stadium Complex.
After Sunday’s match, the Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Sept. 16, when they travel to Syracuse, NY, to square off against the Orange at 7:00 p.m. in what will mark the beginning of BIG EAST conference play for RU.
