  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Bobbi Jo Adams (Port Norris, NJ) scored on a scramble in front of the goal wirh 17:05 to play in regulation, lifting the Rutgers field hockey tream (1-0} to a 1-0 season-opening victory over Georgetown on Saturday at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.

After the Scarlet Knights took three shots on Georgetown goalkeeper Abby Winer following a penalty corner, sophomore Katie Morad (Marlton, NJ) gathered a rebound and left the ball for Adams, who poked it past Winerr. For Morad, who medically redshirted last season, it was her first career point.

Led by Tiffany Klebez (Medford, PA), Heather Graver (Vlncentown, NJ), Kara Spector (Easton, MD) and Kirsten Graham (Cinnminson, NJ) , the Rutgers defense allowed just four shots, none of which were on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kristen Van Rooij (Ben Bosh, The Netherlands) made her collegiate debut and did not make a save.

The Scarket Knights had several good scoring chances in botrh halves, including a penalty corner by Morad that hit the top of the crossbar. Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Mary Szymonowicz (Piscataway, NJ) had a team-high seven shots. In all, RU outshot Georgetown 21-4 and held a 7-1
    advantage in penalty cornes.

Several freshmen made their Rutgers debuts, including three that were in the starting lineup - Jessica Roos (Mickleton, NJ), Corinne Bach (Moorestown, NJ) and Jocelyn Mattina (Bethlehem., PA). Freshmen Catherine Badolato (Berlin, NJ), Katie Murphy (Medford, NJ) and Marielle Zibman (Princeton Junction, NJ) also saw action.

Rutgers' win marks the second-consecutive year it has opened the season with a victory. Last year at the Blue Hen Classic in Newark DE, the Scarlet Knights defeated West Chester, 3-2.

RU will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 29 at 1:00pm when it hosts Saint Joseph's at the
    Rutgers Stadium Complex
