  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 21, 2014) –Rutgers field hockey had three representatives as the Big Ten Conference announced its Preseason Players to Watch List. Senior midfielder Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom), senior midfielder/back Jenn Staab (Marmora, N.J.) and redshirt sophomore midfielder Alyssa Bull (Oakville, Ontario) were recognized by the conference as players to watch for the upcoming season.

The Scarlet Knights enter their inaugural Big Ten season returning 11 letterwinners, including six starters from last season’s team that posted a 9-9 record. Additionally, RU welcomes eight newcomers for the 2014 campaign.

Wright enters her senior year after leading the Scarlet Knights in 2013 with nine goals and 19 points. She was a member of the 2013 All-Big East Second Team and was selected to the 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.

Staab joins Wright as Rutgers’ other senior, and has been a consistent presence in the Scarlet Knights lineup. In her three seasons she has started 53 of 55 games as a collegian, and was recognized on as Second Team All-Big East in 2012.

Bull returns to the Rutgers lineup after an injury suffered in last season’s opener caused her to take a redshirt season. Bull made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2012, scoring five goals and adding seven assists, as she was named Big East Rookie of the Year and to the Second Team All-Big East.

Rutgers will have a pair of exhibition matches, hosting Fairfield on Friday, August 22 before traveling to Princeton for a scrimmage on Monday, August  25. The 2014 regular season gets underway on Friday, August 29 when the Scarlet Knights host Bucknell at 4 p.m. at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
