Rutgers junior goalkeeper Stacey Gaenzle (Lancaster, PA) continued her strong defensive play, shutting out Stanford in the first half. The Cardinal’s Noor Danwood put Stanford on the board less than five minutes into the second half, with Keely Machmer-Wessels scoring the second. While facing 22 shots on goal, Gaenzle made 12 saves, while gathering defensive help from juniors Julie Speckels (Los Altos, CA) and Ashley Recker (Dillsburg, PA), who each earned a defensive save. Speckels, who earned her eighth career defensive save tonight, is now tied for second on Rutgers career defensive saves list.
Stanford’s Emily Zander and Ana Kralovec split time in goal, facing four Rutgers shots. Leading the way for Rutgers was junior Kamilah Lalani (West Vancouver, BC) with two shots, while Recker and rookie Heather Graver (Vincentown, NJ) each made it inside the circle for one shot apiece.
Rutgers returns to the East Coast for the continuation of the season, facing Fairfield on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m. Following the game at Fairfield, Rutgers will head to Syracuse for the BIG EAST/ Big Ten Challenge on Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, where the Scarlet Knights will face Michigan State and Indiana.
