PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 4, 2013) – Rutgers field hockey freshman Shevaun Hayes (Melbourne, Australia) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday. This was the second time this season that Hayes was recognized as she also earned the first Rutgers BIG EAST Player of the Week honor (Oct. 7) since senior Lisa Patrone (Washington Township, N.J.) was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8, 2012.
A goalkeeper, Hayes surrendered just one score to No. 5 Old Dominion (Nov. 1), which was previously on a 10-game winning streak, averaging 4.10 goals per game during that span. The Melbourne, Australia, native made a career-high 13 saves against the Monarchs. Hayes also made three saves in one half of play at Bucknell (Nov. 3).
The weekly award marked the sixth conference honor for RU this season. Hayes was recognized twice, junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) was honored twice (Sept. 2, Oct. 14), senior Laura Rose (Washington Townships, N.J.) was honored once (Oct. 14) and senior GK Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) was recognized on Sept. 9.
